About Protein Notes
Protein Notes is an independent, actively maintained editorial publication. It publishes practical, evidence-led explanations of protein, meal preparation, food labels and nutrition for New Zealand readers.
What we do
We take the everyday questions people actually ask — how much protein do I need, what does “high protein” mean on a label, how long does meal prep keep, what is a supplement allowed to claim — and answer them plainly, using official New Zealand and Food Standards guidance and published research. Every claim links to its source, and every page shows when its facts were last checked.
How it works
- Sourced. Each article lists at least one real, linked source. Where the evidence is thin or contested, the page says so rather than rounding it up into advice.
- Dated. Pages show when they were first published and when a person last verified the facts.
- Corrigible. Errors are fixed in the open. See our editorial standards for the full rules, including the claims we never make.
Who publishes this
Protein Notes is written and maintained by the Protein Notes editorial team. Research, drafting and technical work are AI-assisted; facts, sources and judgements are checked by a person before anything is published. We do not claim medical or dietetic qualifications, and we do not pretend to. Where a page needs individual clinical judgement, it says so and points you to a registered dietitian or your doctor.
What this site is not
- It is not medical advice, and it is not personalised nutrition advice.
- It does not sell, supply, or help anyone source any product.
- It does not publish testimonials or before-and-after claims.
How it is funded
Protein Notes currently earns nothing — it carries no advertising, affiliate, sponsor or paid relationship of any kind. If that changes, every commercial relationship will be listed in full on the partners & disclosure page, and any article carrying a paid or affiliate link will show a disclosure notice before the first such link appears.
